City Information
Time zone: Central
Getting around: The city's streets are set up in a grid pattern, so navigating by car isn't as difficult as finding a place to park or making any headway through very serious rush-hour traffic. Taxis are readily available and not especially expensive. The city's famous elevated "El" trains are color coded and run through the downtown "Loop" every five to fifteen minutes during the day, making them an attractive alternative to the city's complex bus system. Walking is a wonderful option if you're staying within range of the city's major events; underground Pedway pedestrian tunnels provide shelter from the elements and link more than 40 blocks of the central business district.
Weather: Chicago experiences four very distinct seasons, with raw, snowy winters and hot, humid summers, and of course, it isn't known as the Windy City for gentle breezes. Fall and spring are generally temperate, and provide pleasant weather for the many outdoor activities the city has to offer. Average daily temperatures in the heart of the winter range from 18 to 36 degrees, and from June through August rise to 60 to 81 degrees. May and September are perhaps the most comfortable months, with average lows around 50 degrees and highs in the low 70s.
